Avure Launches Newest Fresher Under Pressure System for High-Volume Plant Applications
9-30-2004 Kent, Washington - Avure Technologies Incorporated, a subsidiary of Flow International Corporation (Nasdaq: FLOW),and producer of Fresher Under Pressure high-pressure processing (HPP) technology, today announced the introduction of its new 215L ULTRA HPP system. This latest design upgrades Avure's extremely reliable 215-liter pressure vessel with a revolutionary dual-pump pressurization system, an advanced PC-based control system and faster total operation.
HPP destroys food-borne pathogens and spoilage organisms, ensuring product safety and enabling longer shelf life. With Avure's systems, foods retain more of their fresh taste, color, texture and nutritional values than is possible with other food processing techniques that depend on chemical additives or heat treatments.
Pat Adams, Avure's President and CEO, says, "As food processors have adopted our technology, they've asked for greater product throughput and lower operating costs. For higher-volume plant operations, particularly for sliced ready-to-eat meats, the 215L ULTRA is the solution they've been seeking."
The 215L ULTRA's innovative pumping system, developed and manufactured by Flow International, uses a new generation of powerful pressure intensifiers. This system accelerates virtually every process step. Pressurization, de-pressurization, even system opening and closing occur faster. Multiple units can be monitored and controlled from a central location through a SCADA system, which is compatible with a wide range of automated handling systems. The 215L ULTRA shortens cycle times, which maximizes product throughput. Designed for longer life, lower maintenance and improved operation; the 215L ULTRA reduces overall cost for HPP technology.
Recent new food safety regulations to control Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) in ready-to-eat (RTE) meats require processors to declare and validate their food safety procedures. Use of Avure's HPP technology can help RTE meat processors attain a preferential category ranking. HPP is a highly effective "post-packaging lethality step" that destroys Lm throughout the finished product, without detracting from the delicate flavor profile and appearance of many RTE meats.
Mr. Adams reports that Avure has already delivered several 215L ULTRA units. "Now, we are installing these systems in two of our key market segments, for products that include ready-to-eat meats and processed fruits and vegetables," he says, "and we expect enthusiastic consumer response to these safer, fresher products."
