WIRE WINDING

The main components of high-pressure presses are exposed to extreme forces. AVURE has developed a pre-stressing technology based on a steel wire-winding technique that combines extremely high strength with a light, compact structure. The savings in weight amount to 50 % compared with conventional presses. The QUINTUS ® frames and pressure vessels are wound with steel wire that is pre-stressed so that only compressive stresses occurs in the components even when they are subjected to maximum loading. As a consequence, the resistance to fatigue is very high and risk of critical crack propagation is eliminated.

Cross-section of a QUINTUS ® wire-wound vessel shown with a load (in red) under isostatic conditions. There are no threads or other areas of stress concentration. The closures slide freely and rest against the external frame, which is also wire-wound for maximum fatigue resistance. The frame is retracted when the top closure is to be opened for reloading.
